As an RD23 committee member and former RD22 Vice-Chair, I commend the RD23 members that voted NO on a motion to endorse a candidate in the 2026 Primary Election (vote failed 7-11). It was always my position that with 2 committee members running in a 4-way primary that it is best to allow the voters of RD23 decide without undo influence from a very small group that themselves could not reach more than a single vote majority on previous motions to consider endorsement.
I will continue to be an advocate for inclusionary democratic processes that place power in the hands of the people, not the influence of a select few.
Due to the large number of contested primaries this year, this issue has not been unique to RD23. I will be reaching out to our County and State Democratic Committees to see if there can be a better solution. A rule change to require a two-thirds majority on any endorsement votes would at least eliminate a split committee, or small special interest group from forcing an endorsement that is not truly representative of that committee or the District they represent.
I would love to hear your thoughts. If you are interested in joining a Democratic RD Committee, I encourage you to get involved!
