Public education is real. Public education shapes people’s entire lives. Public education is also the first and sometimes only real interaction that people will ever have with their local government.
And public education is broken in Delaware.
We know what the problems are, and we know what meaningful solutions would look like. But they’re going to require making some people upset. They’re going to require hard choices. They’re going to require the state legislature to have a backbone and care more about Delawareans than re-elections.
Luann is a real person. She worked as an electrical engineer, getting her hands dirty, dealing with angry customers. She started a small business in this fine state, the one that we’re all standing in, and she has built a place where people come to feel happy, to feel free, to be themselves.
She’s dedicated untold amounts of time volunteering, working with people at their lowest points, working with people that have been written off, working with people who just needed a helping hand.
I don’t know what the future will bring, but I know that with Luann in office, it won’t be another task force; it won’t be another consortium; it won’t be another can kicked down the road until after the next election. It will be solutions, material improvements in our lives, and all of that starts today, here and now, with you all.
