Bella, Margarita, and Goofy

Meet Bella and Margarita

Bella and Margarita are both rescued golden retrievers, adopted from Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue (DVGRR).

Bella

Bella joined the family in August of 2019 after Lexi, one of Luann’s previous goldens, passed suddenly from cancer. Like all four of Luann’s previous female goldens, Bella had been used as a puppy mill breeder girl prior to her arrival at DVGRR. She adjusted well to life in her new home. She loves to run, chase balls, and play with her stuffies. Bella learned quickly from her big brother and mentor and followed in his footsteps earning her therapy dog certification in no time. As a therapy companion, you may run into Bella working many area community events, educational events, student or corporate de-stress sessions, or visiting with staff, patients, and families at Christiana Care.

Margarita

Margarita joined our family in late February of this year just before all of the Covid craziness arrived. She is 4 years old and spent her life as a breeder girl in an Amish puppy mill in Ohio before making her way to DVGRR. Margarita struggled with some complications from her spay surgery during her first few months with us, but she is all better now and adjusting well to life in her new home. She can be very shy and scared around new people, new places, or on leash, but once she gets to know you, she’s a crazy little lovebug. Margarita is full of playful energy, loves her toys, and can’t get enough attention. As her confidence builds, she will begin training as a therapy pup and hopefully follow in Goofy and Bella’s footsteps.

RIP Goofy (2005-2020)

Goofy was a rescue from Puerto Rico that, at age 11, made his way to DVGRR in Reinholds, PA. He found his forever home with Luann as a hospice pup after several health issues were discovered. Goofy had an outgoing personality, was well behaved, and loved people—the perfect recipe for a therapy dog. He quickly passed his certification to be a therapy companion with PAWS for People, and soon after received his master’s certification. Goofy and Luann used to make regular visits to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Hospital and participate in other community events. We lost Goofy on July 5, 2020.

When Bella and Margarita aren’t working or playing, you may find them strolling at Paper Mill Park, visiting at Take The Lead Dance Studio, or hanging out with their Dad and other first responders at Mill Creek Fire Company. They would love to meet you; don't hesitate to stop us and say hi!
